Someone's 32! (right?)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHAD!!
Hope that you had a great day-probably just worked like any other huh?
Sorry this is all you're getting from the Miramontes' this year (like that's different from any other:)!)
Wish we could buy you a big ol' boat to go fishing on! Maybe when Tony wins the lottery that he never plays!
Anyways, just wanted to wish you a happy birthday and let you know we didn't forget about you!
We love our brother, brother-in-law, and uncle!
I have a favor to ask of any one that is willing. My friend, Michelle, is suffering from melanoma and has had a very difficult battle for the last 4 or 5 years. It started out small on her cheek and has spread, and spread, and spread. She has lost half of her face and one of her ears. She has had numerous surgeries and they thought that they may have gotten it all with her last surgery in May, but they were wrong. She has been faced with a very difficult decision recently. She had to decide what kind of treatment she wanted to pursue. All of the treatments had pros and cons. One would keep her in the hospital for 10 days and the side effects are more horrible than i can describe, but it could give her up to five more years. Michelle has three beautiful children and wants to live here as long as she can so she chose this treatment over two others that were less invasive but gave her less time on Earth. After she made the decision she received detrimental news, the cancer has spread to her lungs. Right now they are simply discussing more treatment options, but Michelle feels like she has a very small chance of recovery. I am going to do a special fast for her on Thursday. Since I am pregnant I can not do a true fast, but I am going to spend a lot of time on my knees and I will do everything else that I would normally do when I fast. Michelle is an amazing person, and she and I have been friends since middle school. She has a beautiful spirit and family and she deserves some prayers in her behalf. I am asking all of you who are willing to fast with me or at least keep her in your prayers. You are welcome to look at her blog, it is linked to mine but I am warning you, you will cry- but your testimony might be strengthened as well and you will probably end up feeling very blessed for the trials you are facing or have faced. I decided to fast yesterday and then Chad got his birthday card from Grandma and we learned of her health problems too. She asked if we would keep her in our prayers and so I was thinking if anyone ends up fasting with me we can certainly include Grandma in our prayers and fast intent.
Thank you so much,
Melinda

Some interesting things we are learning about our mission. 1) We will drive on the wrong side of the road - on the wrong side of the car - shifting with the left hand! 2) We will be living in a house with the ability to have internet, hot water, washer and dryer, and monkeys probably running around the back yard. 3) We most likely will be assigned a branch and will stay at that assignment the full 18 months. 4) All couples have ample opportunity to visit game reserves with all the Safari animals that you see on national geographic 5) Other couples have had children and siblings visit them in the mission with the sanction and blessing of the mission president. 6) We are more excited than ever!

Only one "Judges chjoice in each category so it was quite exciting for us and especially her. Chad it is "cute".

Thanks Melinda for the neat post on the mission call. We have enjoyed it again and again! We especially enjoyed reading the missionary blog of the couple whose e-mail address you gave to us.

We are totally excited to go to the Aftican Nation. Won't even miss much the "Cougar Nation" while we are gone. This will be alot more exicting. Melinda and Chad you might want to come down and pick us up as go on a wildlife safari with us. Fish and game would probably pay for you to have that inservice opportunity.

We love those who live in Ogden, those who live in Colorado, those who live in Cedar, those who live in Parowan, and those who don't know where they live or will live.

Have a good one!

Missing Dad & Mom already!

So, I didn't exactly know where Durban was-just in South Africa, so I thought I'd do some exploring! I've had so much fun looking at pictures of Durban that I thought I'd share some with everyone! Dad and Mom sure have a wonderful experience waiting for them! Wish I could tag along!:)

This is a map that I found that shows the growth of the church in South Africa. The yellow dots are wards and the green are branches! WOW!
I thought this was so cute! Dad and Mom may have to bring a souvenier like this home for me!!:)
Map of South Africa (Durban on the right-right on the Indian Ocean!)

Just a magnificent picture of a house that is located in Durban-I thought it was beautiful!

Also, I stumbled upon another blog that was awesome! The pictures there are amazing! It is http://www.davidmarilynmissionjournal.blogspot.com/.

CONGRATS to Dad and Mom! They are going to make such great missionaries! The people of South Africa are so lucky to have you guys join them for a while! Love you Mom and Dad!
